Hi everyone! We have returned to our home in the Sacred Valley of Vilcabamba, Ecuador. We had a great trip to Texas, but it was too short. We stayed in Belton to be closer to our kids and new grandbaby which kept it logistically challenging to see everyone on this trip. We are happy to have the chance to visit with those we were able to. As I said to everyone we visited with, Ecuador has everything, clean water, air, good food and great lifestyle. The only thing missing is all of you whom we dearly love and miss.
We have made some new friends here in Ecuador, and many are believers. We are so blessed as we can meet people from all over the world. We drove back from my eye Dr. appointment yesterday, and I spent my time talking to another young man on the shuttle van. Since it is a 4-5-hour ride, lots of time for visiting. He was from Austria and a yoga instructor who was going to Hosteria Izchalyuma to work for a few weeks as a Yoga Instructor. He was very passionate about his chosen profession and I applaud him for that.
As I mentioned above, we returned from our trip to Texas and almost immediately had to go to Cuenca for my follow-up visit with the Eye Dr. I refer to my surgeon as “Superman”. The appointment was good. They said that my eyesight had improved a good deal since last visit. He did a couple of zaps with the laser to clean up a few areas in the left eye. They are making new glasses and will ship them to me. One point of good news is that a year ago in December I had two visits with my Eye Dr. in Georgetown. He had prescribed me with new prescription that had increased to a +2.75 in the right eye. He said that my eyes were getting gradually worse and would continue to do so. When I was tested yesterday, my new script for the right eye was +1.75. That is a huge improvement. I was thinking over the last several months that I had improvement and that my glasses were too strong. I was right. The only thing I can attribute the improvement to is life in the Sacred Valley. The air is pure, water is full of minerals and our diet is much improved. In fact, Lisa and I have dropped three sixes in our clothes. I have also been taking CBD oil since January. Whatever is doing the job, I am grateful. I think soon I can start not wearing my glasses around the house at least.
Texas was fun, and we so enjoyed seeing our grandbaby. He is precious, handsome and a prefect little boy. We are so happy for B.J. and Amanda. They are going to be great parents, and we will continually pray for the three of them. By now, B.J. has shipped off to basic training for 12 weeks. After that he will go to Officer Candidate School, where Amanda will join him in April. We ask that everyone keep the three of them in prayer as they transition into the next stage of their lives.
We brought Lisa’s mother Georgia, back with us. She lives in Colorado with Lisa’s sister and family. She is still getting acclimated to Ecuador but seems to be doing well. At least she won’t have to endure the cold Colorado winter. It has been raining here since we got home, but it should clear up today and be wonderful. Georgia and Lisa are spending much time catching up and talking about a variety of subjects. I mostly just pick on them both.
Our gardens are now full and green. All the landscape is green again and everything is in full bloom. Our apple trees are loaded with apples as is our mangoes. Bananas are coming in weekly and many of the citrus trees are starting to put on lots of fruit. We should have 8-9 months of this greenery and production of food. Our Casita is finished, and we may have it rented for the month of December. We met some folks in Cuenca who are thinking of coming here next month and renting for a while. They are nice folks and we share many of the same interests.
We were able to squeeze in a breakfast at the Sunrise Café in Cuenca while we were there. Its always nice to get a good ol’ American breakfast when we are there. The people who work there are fantastic and always friendly. Many Gringos frequent this place. There is a very large Gringo community in Cuenca, and this place has learned to cater to them very well.
We hope that everyone will plan to come and experience Ecuador. This country has much to see and do. There are several bus tours that will take you throughout the country. They are the kind you can hop on and off wherever you want for very little money. It’s a great way to travel cheap and to see the entire country, or just a part of it. As always, you and your family are welcome to stay with us here in Vilcabamba. We can’t wait to see you all and to visit on our patio while enjoying the perfect climate and breathtaking views.
Until next time.
Dios los Bendiga!
